I shot this scene following rainfall while hiking in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, wherein the landscape appears much like a temperate rainforest – with moss everywhere!

Following rain, I drove east towards the Smoky Mountains, into the Tremont section along a gravel road – which parallels Middle Prong Little River – and rested for a spell to enjoy this moss-covered landscape.
The scenery reminded me of the 1981 movie, Excalibur, so I’ve included a (later rendition) song that was part of the soundtrack from that film, below:
O Fortuna (Carmina Burana), by Carl Orff
A few miles further into the Smoky Mountains beyond the Old Wooden Bridge, at the end of a dirt road, visitors arrive at this footbridge marking the trailhead of Middle Prong Trail. It also marks the end of Lynn Camp Prong, which, when merged with Thunderhead Prong (unseen, this side and right of the footbridge), becomes Middle Prong Little River, shown here.
I took this photograph yesterday evening, two hours after rain and while (carefully) standing on a broad, moss-covered rock in the river.
And, to better appreciate the beauty of the area, I’ve also included this video, taken with my iPhone. Enjoy, and thanks for stopping by!
Old Wooden Bridge
In the distance, an old wooden bridge along a gravel road spans the rocky waterway known as Middle Prong Little River, located in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.
Water flows in cascades over and around mossy rocks lining the gorge which houses Lynn Camp Prong, in the Smoky Mountains. Areas such as this are somewhat difficult to access, though convey an outstanding beauty far in excess of efforts expended to enjoy.
You can enjoy prints available here. Thanks for visiting!
Chute of Water
More specifically, this is the upper half of Lower Lynn Camp Falls, a beautiful waterfall situated along Lynn Camp Prong in the Tremont section of the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.
And, you can enjoy this natural landscape scenery from any room in your home, when you purchase a print from my gallery. Several options are available, so come by today and enjoy the great outdoors for many days to come, on a wall of your choosing. Thanks very much!
Shadows grow to consume the valley before sunset, as I approached the terminus of Thunderhead Prong Quiet Walkway. At this time of day, distant stumps in the forest begin to take the shape of bears, and sudden sounds are perceived with a heightened sense of interest. I’m aware that this trail is only hiked infrequently, and that I’m all alone in nature.
This is Thunderhead Prong in the Smoky Mountains, where the trail meets the waterway, at left, and a rocky incline, at right, becomes too steep to proceed.

Peace in the Forest
Situated in a forest of dense green, this spot along Middle Prong Little River was filled with beauty, peace and quiet – pristine nature without distraction. It’s a place where waters meet, as the river flows around a long island to reconnect.
You may enjoy this landscape on a wall in your home, as you sit back and immerse yourself in this natural environment, imagining the steady, gentle sound of water cascading downstream, or that of birds, hidden from sight though whose calls stream through forest trees.
I hope you’ll find something you like. Prints available here.

Last Ray of Day
As evening beckons, a fading sun streams its final ray of daylight over the Smoky Mountains, casting long shadows of trees and illuminating a patch of water on Thunderhead Prong. Prints available.
Into the Gorge
It was late afternoon in the Smoky Mountains as I was hiking back along Middle Prong Trail, glancing downhill at Lynn Camp Prong as I progressed. Given no recent rainfall to preclude reasonably safe efforts of descent to access the river, below, and largely indirect light from a sun somewhat low in the sky, I was optimistic about undertaking one last off trail excursion to capture the beauty of nature.
Per my standard cautious and methodical approach, I selected a route to make my way down into the gorge, pleased to discover this serene, secluded spot, from which I now share my photography.
If you’d be interested in a print for an empty wall at home or work, then visit my galleries at Pixels and/or ArtPal to select something nice to enjoy. Thanks!
