    Weightless in the waters of Europa, we shall gaze upon Jupiter, inspired and breathless with awe. Then, pursue a trail of stars as we indulge in grand equatorial vistas of Mars, along the Tharsis Rise. Sojourners, we’ll return to sink our feet into the sands of Jost Van Dyke and wet our whistles at the Soggy Dollar Bar, as the Caribbean Sea glistens with life before our eyes, calling us to swim again.

    Thinking about space after reading an article (Big Bang Impossible: Galaxies that weren’t supposed to exist) outlining recent observations from the James Webb Space Telescope, I woke up this morning and wrote this poem…

  • We Are Not Alone

    We Are Not Alone

    In a remote field at night, the silhouette of trees from a mysterious glow signaled the presence of visitors from another dimension…or so it seemed. Watching intensely from a safe distance, the light began to move slowly in my direction, shadows widening with each passing moment.

    Then, it dawned on me – why would I be outside in a field at this late hour? In searching for an answer, I happened to spot movement in my peripheral field and quickly shifted toward a faintly illuminated object. In disbelief, suspended in midair before me, I observed a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie! Eyes wide open, I hopped out of bed and went to the kitchen for a late night snack.

    Time Portal

    The future. The past. Take your pick, adjust the dial, lock into position and press the green button labeled “GO”. It’s that easy. Although, it should be noted that, while this technologically advanced portal through space and time can take you anywhere, you may never return to the present. Just thought I’d mention that.     Beneath the moon’s surface, an interior environment eludes observation…

    After desaturating and formatting a fractal design, it was then imported into three dimensional space and extruded to generate depth of terrain. Several spheres were positioned accordingly, and the entire scene was placed within a hollow, reflective dome. Color, materials and lights were added, as well as magnification.

    Unbeknownst to me on my first solo flight as an astronaut, I drifted dangerously close and was drawn into a black hole in space. This was the last view I can recall seeing – both stars and light appeared to spin, and the spacecraft hull became translucent, disjointed. Then, everything was completely dark.

    Well, not really. Actually this design is based on a photograph I shot, looking down through a vintage glass lamp shade balanced atop a brown pottery vase. And, of course, with digital design adjustments.

    Eggs of An Alien World

    The spacecraft touched down and the decompression chamber eased me out of suspended animation and into a groggy consciousness. I glanced at the navigation instrumentation but the system appeared inoperative, likely damaged upon landing. Where was I?

    After wrangling with the video monitoring equipment for what seemed like an hour, I finally had a view outside of the ship: the barren landscape of an alien world strewn with giant eggs.
