Access to the falls requires descending a 24-step spiral metal staircase, and hikers should remain weary of slick surfaces around the plunge pool. With other falls in the area, also, it’s a great site to visit!

  • Laurel Falls

    Laurel Falls

This waterfall is not in the Smoky Mountains, nor Hampton or Dayton, TN. This particular Laurel Falls is located in the Savage Gulf State Natural Area of the South Cumberland State Park – in Beersheba Springs, TN. It stands 25-feet tall and would look great behind glass in a framed print for your home. Visit my gallery to see more – thanks!

…I noted this interesting fossil: a piece of wood once imbedded in a 3-foot long slab of rock on shore.

  • Return to Upper Greeter Falls

    Return to Upper Greeter Falls

Within the South Cumberland State Park is the Savage Gulf State Natural Area. It’s located near Altamont, Tennessee, and houses Upper Greeter Falls, a picturesque 10-foot tall waterfall.

There are no restrooms or drinking fountain, plenty of parking and no gate. The trail is manageable and well-kept. And, of course, the waterfall is conveniently situated near its counterpart – Lower Greeter Falls. More on that another time.

  • Return to Foster Falls

    Return to Foster Falls

Located in the South Cumberland State Park near Sequatchie, Tennessee, Foster Falls is a 60-foot tall picturesque waterfall which can be enjoyed by visitors both young and old.

The park features a paved road, restrooms, drinking fountain and a wooden boardwalk leading to an observation deck overlooking the gorge and falls.

From there, a short walk along a sandy path leads hikers to the forest, where one encounters a more difficult, steep downhill trail consisting of many rocks. There’s also a suspension bridge at the base, to cross the river.

    Prints & More

You can visit my gallery to purchase a variety of items in these categories: wall art, home decor, puzzles, lifestyle, stationary, phone cases, beach, coffee mugs, face masks and apparel.

It was overcast during my visit, yesterday. Nevertheless, it’s a beautiful park and well worth a road trip to enjoy the great outdoors!

  • Drip Drip Drip

It’s not always possible to correctly anticipate when a waterfall is either flowing fully, or nearly dry. Without live stream cameras on site, one must consider recent weather reports citing rainfall, the time of season, and other personal accounts provided online. One such source of information is alltrails.com.

However, there are times – case in point – when photographs uploaded by park visitors were filmed at a much earlier point, absent notation. Having recently observed pictures indicative of substantial water present, I was certainly disappointed after a rather strenuous hike along a very rocky trail to discover scant water. Live and learn.

Nevertheless, an earlier visit to Foster Falls, and subsequent hikes to Lower & Upper Greeter Falls, the Stone Door, and Laurel Falls, each contributed to a fantastic day – and very sore muscles this morning!

This was my second visit to Denny Cove Falls, so I’ve included a video (below) from my earlier hike in March 2020 for contrast. I’ll also post more photographs from yesterday in the days ahead…

    Cascades and Reflections

These cascades are located upstream from Savage Falls, at the South Cumberland State Park in Tennessee.

After a recent rain, an abundant flow of water generated a mist, which, when combined with a lingering morning fog, added to this scenic atmosphere.

There’s a lot to enjoy in this black and white photograph, including the reflection of trees in foreground puddles.

Prints are available – come by and see.
