  • Cascades

    Cascades

This summer photograph of cascades was taken at the Savage Gulf State Natural Area, upstream from Savage Falls. Like many other waterways on the Cumberland Plateau, the volume of water present varies greatly depending upon the season of the year. Despite a low level during my visit, I nevertheless considered this underlying rock structure a real treat to see, and photograph. If interested, prints are available. Thanks for visiting!

    Poem

    Water Spirits

Sifting through time in forested mountains
As beauty of movement in water chases gravity
Echoes ring in a rush, over and around rocks
    Raining rhythm on riverside deadheads
Rolling, splashing and drumming pockets of air

I’ve come to appreciate the sound of rivers that talk
Speaking in the tongue of ancients
Of Indians, pioneers, early settlers and nomads alike
Lives lived and long passed, here
Beneath the soil where once was home
Now, singing as spirits in the current of waves

Alone in the forest, listening to the flow of nature
I hear their voices and it sounds heavenly

  • Changing Landscape

    Changing Landscape

Heavy rains saturate the soil, draining downhill to bolster waterways. Strong winds topple trees, some of which may wash downstream. Change is constant and it’s always a good time to visit the forest following notable weather events.

Seen here, Middle Prong Little River is flowing fast the day after heavy rainfall. Located in the Tremont section of the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, it’s one of my favorites places to hike, with a wide variety of diverse scenery to enjoy.

You can enjoy this landscape scenery on a print in your home, when you visit my galleries to select the perfect accent piece for an empty wall…
