    Poem for a Friend

This poem was written as a birthday gift for my dearest friend, Carla Milho, a beautiful lady and talented writer hailing from Lisbon, Portugal. Please visit her web site to wish her a Happy Birthday on this special day – thanks very much!

Frost the cake and add a candle to the dish
It’s time to make a wish
    Another year is here

Sing the song we know with joy and warm delight
    We celebrate tonight
    Toasting you with good cheer

    47!!!

    Happy Birthday, Carla
    Let the good times flow
Fun and friends who love you, don’t you know

    Happiness, forever
    When you share a smile
Days ahead grow brighter, all the while

    Poem for a Friend

This poem was written for Annabel, a very talented and beautiful poetess residing in California. An exquisite dancer and friend whose smile melts my heart, she’s also a source of inspiration. Please visit her site to enjoy her creative writings – thank you!

Drifting by night, into a dream
I saw her standing there –
    Beside the sea
    Under a moon
    Gold stardust in her hair

Hers are the words I long to hear
    In rapture of the heart
    Each welcoming
    Our warm embrace
    Forming a work of art

The day did dawn, as I arose
    Reflecting on her spell
    Deep down inside
    I wish for her
    – the lovely Annabel

    Poem

    The other day, I had a recollection…

Many, many moons ago, I was playing poker after hours with friends at an Irish pub in Royal Oak, Michigan. That night, luck was on my side and I happened to win the first four games. So, to their dismay, I said farewell and skated – up $80.

Last evening, I watched Maverick (Mel Gibson, Jodi Foster, James Garner)…

This morning, I wrote this short poem…

    We bet by chance
    On calling cards
One night, at a bar, long ago

    She played her hand
    – a suited flush
All hearts, for a Queen, kneading dough

    Footprints in the Sand

This vintage photograph features the sandy shores and waves of Lake Superior, including Little Presque Isle, as seen north of Marquette in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Visiting this spot, you’ll likely have the beach to yourself, and, if surface temperatures are suitable in summer, the island can be explored by wading waist-deep through water.

You can see more (gifts, prints, etc.) in these shops: Pixels, Redbubble & ArtPal.

    Thanks very much!

This black and white photograph was taken at the historic John P. Cable Grist Mill, located in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee at Cades Cove, a community established by European settlers within a verdant valley, in 1818.

You can find prints and other items available in my galleries at Pixels and ArtPal.

  • Fog Over Cascades

Morning fog lingers with mist from a full, fast-flowing cascades in the South Cumberland State Park of Tennessee, upstream of Savage Falls.

This aesthetic black and white photograph would make an excellent accent piece in your home, at work, or as a gift to give to family or friends. Many different print types are available, and I encourage you to visit my galleries to see more:

    Video

Here’s a video filmed downstream while hiking the same day as I shot the (above) photograph, featuring the roaring 30-foot tall Savage Falls. I timed my visit to the park following a substantial rainfall…

  • Into the Light

Trapped behind the collapsed entrance of a cave and without food, my limited rations of water were bone dry after 25 days. I was starving and stranded in the middle of nowhere, where calls for help were both futile, and strained my painfully parched vocal cords. I’d lost weight and prayed it was enough, that I might now fit between the thin sliver of rocks defining my captivity and illuminating my escape. It was now or never, and there was only one way out – into the light.

If you’d like to enjoy a change of scenery, then my photography may lend itself as being the perfect accent piece for a wall in your home or workplace. You can visit my gallery to see more, selecting from a variety of print types: framed, canvas, metal, art, poster, wood, acrylic and tapestry. It makes a great gift idea, too.

    Poem in Response: Part II

After writing my recent Poem in Response, inspired by reading “The Dance“, a wonderful poem penned by the beautiful Floridian poetess, Holly Hunter, I wrote this follow-up poem…

    Sharing the stars
    Embracing time
    Awake until twilight

    Two hearts in tow
    Drawn by the moon
    Through waves of love, delight

    Poem in Response

Having read “The Dance“, written by the talented and lovely Floridian poetess, Holly Hunter – in which a beautiful redhead at the Sad Café holds the light of her heart in her hand – I was inspired to write this poem…

    Rhythm in waves
    They found the beach
To make the moon their own

    Two hearts as one
    One dance in sync
    In love, never alone

Update: I’ve added a second writing, Poem in Response: Part II.

    Poem in Response

After reading “Golden Pink Gone“, written by the talented and lovely Arizonian poetess, Michele Lee Sefton – wherein her happiness stems from an admiration of beauty and peacefulness (rather than the frivolous), sharing photographs of local sights – I was inspired to write this poem…

The time you take to share
    With steady gait, to reminisce
    A beauty that’s alive
Your town, in hues of golden bliss
