When once we played in fields of green
Grand meadows and summer sun
In Chuck Taylors with torn blue jeans
Climbing trees and having fun
Street hockey on a vacant lot
Sailing frisbees through the air
Building sand castles near the lake
Living life without a care
Now, days are short and time precious
Yet the child inside still plays
Drifting on dreams of yesteryear
To the spring of happy days
It’s Halloween, again…the time to eat candy, don a scary costume, carve pumpkins & enjoy the festivities. Oh, and remember to brush your teeth – especially vampires!
It was 5:20 a.m. and I was finishing my second cup of coffee when it dawned on me – the question:
How many birthdays have I had on the same day of the week as my date of birth?
In resolution, using this weekday calendar, I laboriously set about to record the years in which I had a birthday on the Sabbath, being born on a Sunday.
Granted, this number of same days of the week may be of minimal interest, yet I did observe a pattern. So, I checked a few other sample birthdates to substantiate the following conclusion:
With the exception of February 29th, every birthdate, on any given day of the week, recurs on that day of the week in accordance with the following pattern of years…
↱ 6 · 11 · 6 · 5 ↲
So, if your birthday on the same day of the week as your date of birth initially occurs at age 11, it then recurs at intervals of 6, 5, 6 and 11 years, as a repeating loop.
Also, if by chance you happened to be born in a leap year on February 29th, your next calendar birthday of February 29th – on the same day of the week as your birthdate – will occur in a cycle every 28 years.
You may say that I’ve got too much time on my hands, but cut me some slack – and cake – as today is my birthday. Happy birthday, me!

In the mid-1990’s, I took a road trip with a friend from Kalamazoo, Michigan, to visit another friend living in Amherst, Massachusetts. While canoeing, we happened upon a rock face at waters edge. Two of us jumped at the same time from a 30-foot cliff, my friend (top) appearing to defy gravity having used a rope swing, while I simply dropped like a rock. Geronimo!
As astronauts pressed on to explore unmapped regions of Mars, they were shocked beyond belief to discover that the planet was in fact alive! The moral of this story is: look where you step, and if where you step looks back, step away. Better yet, step into these shops to uncover great gift ideas for the holidays…
It may be night, but there’s still so much to see – simply have a look around. However, if you happen upon several giant eyeballs defying gravity while attached to golden chains, you might want to turn the boat around and paddle as fast as possible! And, when you have a chance, drift into my galleries to discover some very cool items available for sale…
