These wildflower photographs were taken along the trail to Clingman’s Dome, located in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. This black and white photograph features a valley field with fence post at Cades Cove, an historical region located in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. These three morning photographs were taken from scenic overlooks along the old section of the Foothills Parkway, located outside of Townsend, Tennessee, near the Smoky Mountains. After hiking, I drove north on US-321 and turned east onto the Foothills Parkway. It’s an 11-mile drive up and along the ridge line to Look Rock, an elevated platform from which to observe the Smoky Mountains. This was my second visit at this location, and, despite being mostly overcast, it’s always nice to have a look from above the clouds. You can visit my gallery to see more…

This vintage photograph features the sandy shores and waves of Lake Superior, including Little Presque Isle, as seen north of Marquette in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Visiting this spot, you’ll likely have the beach to yourself, and, if surface temperatures are suitable in summer, the island can be explored by wading waist-deep through water.
