    Poem for a Friend

This poem was written as a birthday gift for my dearest friend, Carla Milho, a beautiful lady and talented writer hailing from Lisbon, Portugal. Please visit her web site to wish her a Happy Birthday on this special day – thanks very much!

Frost the cake and add a candle to the dish
It’s time to make a wish
    Another year is here

Sing the song we know with joy and warm delight
    We celebrate tonight
    Toasting you with good cheer

    47!!!

    Happy Birthday, Carla
    Let the good times flow
Fun and friends who love you, don’t you know

    Happiness, forever
    When you share a smile
Days ahead grow brighter, all the while

    Poem in Response

After reading “Não Há Metades” (Portuguese, meaning “There Are No Halves”) by Carla Milho – a very talented writer, lovely lady and good friend from Lisbon, Portugal – I was inspired to write this poem…

    Your magic charms
    Have captured me
Now, what am I to do

    You warm my heart
    I can’t escape
    Feelings I know are true

    So far away
    I want you near
    Sharing time hand in hand

    That we may kiss
    On moonlit beach
And lay down in the sand

    A Star Named Carla

    The cosmos, full of stars
With one that shines so bright
    I draw upon the sky
For her, my wish, this night

    A spell cast from afar
    Her beauty speaks to me
    One candle in the dark
Her light is all I see

    Poem in Response

After reading “Forte é…” (Portuguese, meaning “Strong is…”), written by a talented writer, lovely lady and good friend from Lisbon, Carla Milho – wherein she speaks to courage and the importance of perseverance over negative influences – I was inspired to write this poem…

    Writing of challenges
    Encountered everyday
It’s one win at a time
    Each victory, her way

    Her strength through courage shines
    In wielding sword and shield
To keep bad folks at bay
    Whereby their fates are sealed

    With black leather jacket
    Wrapped in faded blue jean
    Humble in her beauty
    She’s a warrior and queen

She is also the star whose light illuminates the landscape of my dreams.

    Poem in Response

After reading “By Chance” (translated: por un acaso), posted by a dear friend and wonderful writer from Portugal, Carla Milho – wherein she shares reasons for changing her nickname, formerly Red Warrior – I was inspired to write this poem in response…

In a land known as Lisbon
    Across the sea, set apart
Hails a cute girl named Carla
    – a beautiful work of art

    Her skin, golden tan
    Her eyes, lovely green
    Her smile warms my heart
    …you know what I mean

    Like a school-kid with a crush
Poems of love that never end
Yet, I know she’s spoken for
And extend my hand as friend

  • Poem: Wishing on a Star

    Poem: Wishing on a Star

I originally wrote this poem on December 22, 2020, in response to reading “Make a Wish to a Star and It Will Come True“, by Carla Milho, a very lovely lady and talented writer from Lisbon, Portugal. I then posted it on my site a few days later, as part of a compilation. And, now…freestanding.

⭐ A light to the east,
    	After dark
    	In the sky.

    🕊 A dove is released,
    	And my wish
    	Came to fly.

    🙏 Bound for the heavens,
    	With trust
    	In a prayer.

    ❤️ The woman I love,
    	With hope
    	We will share.

  • Poem of Wishing

    Poem of Wishing

    Wishing She Was Here

    I tossed a coin
    Into the drink
    Then, saw it splash
    And watched it sink

    To make a wish
    I hope comes true
    Deep in my heart
    – I dream of you

    Forgive me, please
    I carry on
    It happens all the time

    These thoughts of you
    Warming my day
    My love flows into rhyme

    I’ll blow a kiss
    Across the sea
    Wrapped with a bow
    To you, from me

    Until we meet
    Please hold it near
    And know that I
    wish you were here

    Poem in Response

After reading “Remember This…” by Carla Milho – a good friend and wonderful writer from Lisbon, Portugal – wherein she speaks to the strength of love, I was inspired to write this poem in response…

    Until the End

    The star I see
    Within your eyes
    Grows bright across the land

    Straight from my heart
    Through spoken word
    I’m asking for your hand

    Please take this ring
    And put it on
    Let’s walk together, now

    From here to there
    Until the end
In love, let’s make this vow

  • Poem of Sharing

    Poem of Sharing

Following correspondence with a dear friend and frequent source of inspiration – Carla Milho, a lovely lady and talented writer hailing from Lisbon, Portugal – I wrote this poem…

    Hearts in Hands of Time

A locket lost in the sands of time
On a beach, on a date, long ago
As lovers captured a setting sun
Holding hands, moving close, hearts aglow

    In the years since passed
    Now, a quiet life
With the fire kept warm, alive

    Down memory lane
    As husband and wife
Still in love, on a moonlight drive

In the twilight between dusk and dawn
Step by step, tracking prints, shifting sand
Reflections on gold, one summer night
Found again, on the beach, hand in hand

The time has come to celebrate
Share gifts and cake and love

At forty-six and in your stride
    The world at your command
The time is now, to seize the day
    Pursue your dreams as planned

So eat your cake, and smile and laugh
    This day belongs to you

  • Poem: Inside a Dream

    Poem: Inside a Dream

I started this poem early last evening, later finishing it in the dream of a beautiful woman I know…

I stepped inside a dream, intense
    Night dark, to slip away
    To hold her near
    Beneath the stars
And love her as she lay

Asleep, then not, and back again
    We tossed across the sand
    On moonlit beach
    Wet in the waves
Two hearts, one love at hand

The rapture of a thousand stars
    Cast bright, forevermore
    Warm sky aglow
    To welcome back
    Our meeting at the shore

  • Poem: On My Mind

    Poem: On My Mind

    She sees the world
    Through loving eyes
    A special place to be

    And as I gaze
    Into her eyes
    Her magic speaks to me

    A welcomed smile
    And cheerful laugh
    Enraptured by her ways

    If but one wish
    Were granted me
With her, I’d share my days

    I wrestle words
    And read aloud
Then put them in a poem

    She’s on my mind
    each waking breath
    Thoughts of a happy home

    Second Poem Published

Today, it’s my honor to annunciate that I’ve had poetry published on MasticadoresUSA. I’m grateful to site Editor Gabriela Marie Miltonthank you very much, Gabriela – for selecting my poem, which is entitled, She’s a Good Witch. Please do visit the site. Thanks!

    She’s a good witch
    The spells are real
    Her magic worked on me

    Within a wish
    She’d wink an eye
And thoughts would come to be

    With no defense
    I’m at her whim
And yes, she likes to play

    She wears me out
    Then props me up
    Each evening every day

    Don’t get me wrong
    I love her so
And know she loves me too

    But she’s in charge
    This lovely witch
    Until the day is through

    She’s a good witch
    Her spells are real
    The magic works for me.
