    Poem

    The other day, I had a recollection…

Many, many moons ago, I was playing poker after hours with friends at an Irish pub in Royal Oak, Michigan. That night, luck was on my side and I happened to win the first four games. So, to their dismay, I said farewell and skated – up $80.

Last evening, I watched Maverick (Mel Gibson, Jodi Foster, James Garner)…

This morning, I wrote this short poem…

    We bet by chance
    On calling cards
One night, at a bar, long ago

    She played her hand
    – a suited flush
All hearts, for a Queen, kneading dough

  • Into the Light

Trapped behind the collapsed entrance of a cave and without food, my limited rations of water were bone dry after 25 days. I was starving and stranded in the middle of nowhere, where calls for help were both futile, and strained my painfully parched vocal cords. I’d lost weight and prayed it was enough, that I might now fit between the thin sliver of rocks defining my captivity and illuminating my escape. It was now or never, and there was only one way out – into the light.

  • Poem in Response: Part II

    Poem in Response: Part II

After writing my recent Poem in Response, inspired by reading “The Dance“, a wonderful poem penned by the beautiful Floridian poetess, Holly Hunter, I wrote this follow-up poem…

    Sharing the stars
    Embracing time
    Awake until twilight

    Two hearts in tow
    Drawn by the moon
    Through waves of love, delight

  • Water Watches Winter

    Water Watches Winter

Poetry for Kids (channeling my inner Dr. Suess) 🤪

The seasonal cold has halted play, and most of the water has gone away. Frozen ’til another day…perhaps, until the month of May. All of the water, that is to say, except a sphere of water so pure, which Old Man Winter failed to sway. So, it remains today, having its way and planning to stay – just one droplet, but that’s okay.

  • Poem in Response

    Poem in Response

Having read “The Dance“, written by the talented and lovely Floridian poetess, Holly Hunter – in which a beautiful redhead at the Sad Café holds the light of her heart in her hand – I was inspired to write this poem…

    Rhythm in waves
    They found the beach
To make the moon their own

    Two hearts as one
    One dance in sync
    In love, never alone

Update: I’ve added a second writing, Poem in Response: Part II.

  • Poem in Response

    Poem in Response

After reading “Golden Pink Gone“, written by the talented and lovely Arizonian poetess, Michele Lee Sefton – wherein her happiness stems from an admiration of beauty and peacefulness (rather than the frivolous), sharing photographs of local sights – I was inspired to write this poem…

The time you take to share
    With steady gait, to reminisce
    A beauty that’s alive
Your town, in hues of golden bliss

  • Gems of Nature

    Gems of Nature

Shallow water laps up onto shore, then recedes back into the lake. Eventually, small common stones become smooth. Seen here in a few inches of water along the coast of Lake Superior, this photograph might be the perfect accent piece you’ve been looking for. Poem in Response

Having read “Superstition Mountain“, written by the talented and lovely Arizonian poetess, Michele Lee Sefton – wherein she draws spiritual nourishment, perspective and resolve in visiting majestic mountains near Phoenix – I was inspired to write this poem…

    At golden hour
    Above the sands
    Old spirits join in song

    From mountain tops
    Upon the wind
As one, with you – stand strong
